We believe that the conference is truly unique, and has come about as a natural extension of our highly successful training day “Behaviour Management For NQTs” hosted by Annie Boate, who is also, many of you will be pleased to know, one of the contributors to the day.

Morning keynote: ‘Into Induction' with Darren Northcott, NASUWT Assistant Secretary – Education
Led by Darren Northcott, an expert in the field of Induction, this session offers a real insight into the What, Why, When and How of your first year. Darren answers the most frequently asked questions about the induction period, and offers the help and advice that often seems so hard to find once the year is up and running and time seems to be slipping away.
The session includes:
Who does what in induction?
What does the induction programme involve?
What makes a pass or fail?
What about extensions?
To ensure that no questions are left unanswered on return to school or college, everyone receives copies of two of NASUWTs excellent reference publications:
The Induction Period
Conditions of Service
These are specifically designed to offer NQTs all the information they need to know.
Afternoon keynote: ‘You Can Do It' with Kesner Ridge
Winner of the Guardian Award for Outstanding New Teacher 2002, Kesner has been branded a ‘Superstar' of teaching. From her first teaching practice there were signs that she was someone special and once qualified, her first Head
described her as "easily the best NQT I've ever come across”. Her pupils agree: “She has that X factor. I felt that I'd discovered talent that I never knew I had.”
So how has Kesner achieved so much in such a short time? How has she retained her enthusiasm and preserved her sanity?
In this lively keynote, Kesner reveals her secrets, discussing what NQTs can really expect in their first year – and beyond. She offers tons of good advice and inspiration on how NQTs can thrive and survive – and dsiscloses a few pitfalls to avoid as well! As Kesner puts it, “It just sounds clichéd but you can make a difference."
