Timeline is proud to offer this new course, presented by Pamela Draycott, Director of Professional Services with RE Today.
The course focuses on improving RE by considering how an ‘inclusive approach' leads to engaging all students in their learning. It represents a wide range of learners, and looks at how to adapt work to suit the needs of the ‘least able', as well as identifying and extending the Gifted and Talented in RE.
This busy course is very practical in approach, and all those who attend leave with lots of material, which they can put to immediate use on their return to school. Examples of work will focus on KS3 and will be drawn from Christianity, Islam and Sikhism, although the approaches taken will be applicable across a wide range of subject content.

Course aimed at:
The course is aimed at those involved in RE teaching looking for new ideas and strategies to engage and motivate all of their students, ensuring that lessons and materials are successfully differentiated. It is particularly suitable for RE Teachers and HODs aiming to make their lessons and departments more inclusive.

Course programme:
The day starts at 9:30 for registration, and the first session is at 10:00. The course ends at approximately 15:45.
There are refreshments at registration, mid-morning, lunch and mid-afternoon. Full delegate materials and a certificate of attendance support the course.

Inclusive RE – what does it mean? Setting an environment for learning
Learning styles and preferences – ‘VAK' and ‘Intelligences' considered and implications for RE addressed
Differentiation – what, why and how?
Session 2 - Skill development in RE
‘Learning about' and ‘Learning from' religion – unpacking the Attainment Targets
A ‘skills focus' in the non-statutory national framework for RE (QCA October 2004)
How to improve the delivery of RE content through an appropriate emphasis on skills – examples considered
Session 3 - Meeting the needs of the ‘most able' in RE
Gifted and Talented in RE – identifying and extending
‘Pitching' it right – examples to think about
Session 4 - Adapting work to suit the needs of the ‘least able' in RE (literacy focus)
Designing tasks to support and challenge learning
Providing structures for thinking, discussion and writing
Session 5 - Where do we go from here?
Considering further implications for me and my department

Tutor – Pamela Draycott:

Pamela is Director of Professional Services with RE Today. She has wide experience both in this country and abroad in supporting quality religious education. Pamela supports RE in three LEAs through SACRE consultancy and school focused work and provides inset courses around the country. She writes regularly for RE Today's termly publications and has had recent responsibility for producing their Picturing Creation pack and the A-Z Active Learning Strategies. She has been a consultant for the BBC and Channel 4 and for Heinemann education.
