Overview:

Timeline is proud to offer this new course, presented by Beverly Rickwood.

This busy, lively day is all about offering practical advice that will make a real difference to confidence levels, and it offers practical support and inspiration that can make a real difference in your first department.

Leading your first department can seem daunting – not only do you have to step into someone else's shoes and ensure that your new team is running successfully, you have to make your mark with the SMT and ensure that the quality of teaching and learning is maintained and improved. Plus, in today's climate, Science HODs are having to become experts at change management: updated curricular options, government initiatives, league tables, changes to Ofsted add yet more pressure to show positive value added.

This course acts as a lifeline as it examines how to ensure your department has a clear direction, runs smoothly and fully utilises the talents and abilities of its staff and pupils. It offers practical advice on prioritising what really matters and provides strategies to build a good team, and maximise pupil progress.

Beverly receives excellent feedback for her interactive training style, which quickly puts people at their ease, and results in lively, open training sessions. Her course aims to develop real-world skills that can be put to immediate and lasting use, not to spend the day being talked at.

Main features of the course:

  • Examining the attributes of successful Science departments and Science leaders
  • Analysing your currents strengths
  • Developing and motivating your team
  • Improving the quality of teaching and learning
  • Achieving your short and long term goals
  • Successful change management
  • Creating and implementing your action plan

Course aimed at:

The course is most suitable for new and aspiring department leaders - however, it also contains ideas that would be of great use to recently established Heads of Science.
